EDUCATION PROGRAMS
Through the Festival’s Outreach and Education program, approximately 4000 local students learn about the exciting world of filmmaking and become active participants within the Festival community.

Young Filmmakers’ Showcase features original short works by inspired young filmmakers from Manatee and Sarasota Counties. The top award-winning filmmakers will receive over $3,000 in scholarships.

What lengths is Pat willing to go to in order to get it? Find out in this film noir adventure. Black Directed by Nicole Bucchino and Mike Azcui School affiliation: Lakewood Ranch High School Bradenton, FL A young man wakes up and doesn’t know where everyone has disappeared to, and he might not want to. Red Wagon Confessions Directed by Vincent Dale No school affiliation Osprey, FL Three hoodlums spend an afternoon playing video games, getting robbed, and dealing with a tricky disposal problem. Tomorrow Directed by Datev Gallagher School affiliation: New Gate School Sarasota, FL An unhappy girl heading down a dark path encounters a stranger who gives her a reason to carry on. Gasoline! Directed by Hali Gardella School affiliation: Booker High School Sarasota, FL Aimless high school graduate Paul is struggling to avoid the influence of a morally corrupt cousin and make a connection with an intriguing acquaintance. The Cycle of Solitude Directed by Erika Snyder School affiliation: Booker High School Sarasota, FL This silent-era styled short depicts a humorous struggle to find companionship.

Scholarships and student filmmaking awards are presented and the Kids Jury announces its pick for “Best Short Family Film.”
SCHOLARSHIPS The Festival awards the Gerd Petrik and Dr. John Welch Scholarships for promising film students in Florida. This year, Film Florida’s Sara Fuller Student Scholarship will go to a local student.
KIDS JURY The Kids Jury consists of 6 young cineastes, ranging from elementary to high school grades, all with an avid appetite for film: Dan Cuesta, Ross Morris, Deter Hudson, Saramaile Tate, Chantal Guerro, Alex Vercheski.
KIDS TRIP Each weekday morning, elementary and middle school students visit the Festival to view a series of short films, meet filmmakers, and experience behind-the-scenes film exhibits including the Full Sail on Tour Show truck.
FEATURE FILM SCREENINGS FOR STUDENTS Middle and high school classes visit the Festival to view specially selected multi-cultural, feature films. This year students have the opportunity to view the classic Mr. Smith Goes to Washington or the powerful, Holocaust documentary, KZ.
SPECIAL PARTNERSHIP WITH EMBRACING OUR DIFFERENCES The Festival and Embracing our Differences have partnered to offer schools the opportunity to experience both educational programs at no charge. For more information about the exhibit, visit www.embracingourdifferences.org
FILMMAKERS IN THE CLASSROOM Visiting filmmakers from all over the world travel to area high schools and colleges and hold discussions about the process of filmmaking.
AFTER-SCHOOL KIDS PROGRAM Children First, a non-profit organization that serves Sarasota County's most vulnerable children and their families, will visit the festival for a FREE screening of the “MY FIRST FILM” SHORT PACKAGE.
