The Sarasota Film Festival reaches out to families and kids through our nationally recognized Outreach and Education program. This program fosters an appreciation of film in students and the general public, while supporting and showcasing the creative vision of filmmakers. One of the highlights of SFF’s Outreach and Education programming is KidsFest. KidsFest consists of family programming and activities that entertain and bring the magic of film to life. Area youth interact within the festival community as active participants through our Young Filmmakers Showcase and Kids Jury Program. Some of the KidsFest events include:
Hollywood Family Fair A larger-than-life street fair fires up the imagination of the entire family through interactive street performers, musical entertainment, dance troupes, foods, crafts and games.
Young Filmmakers Showcase Features short works by students in grades 7-12 from Manatee and Sarasota counties. The showcase features a panel discussion with the student filmmakers and the presentation of a college scholarship to the winning filmmaker.
The Kids Jury Young cineastes participate in discussions, interviews and present the Kids Jury award for “Best Short Family Film.”

Filmmakers in the Classroom Visiting filmmakers travel to area high school and college classrooms to talk with the students about the art and technique of filmmaking.
